I decided to bite the bullet already and jump ship from GitHub Pages to just running the website the good old-fashioned way, with bare PHP on a VPS. So, the server is being run alongside dozens of others, in some scary server building in New Jersey. The upside to this, is I don’t need to regenerate the entire site anymore when I make a post, and I can make the site lots more dynamic. Posts will come through immediately, rather than after 15-minutes or so. The downside to this is now I have another monthly bill to pay. This bill is $4.67/mo through OVH, which I did business with in the past. That’s around $60/yr. But, to be honest, there’s plenty of dumber things I could spend $4.67 on a month, and chances are I was going to spend that on weakly buying chips or soda or something anyway. So, once a month, for less than the price of a subway sandwich in 2008, I’ve got a little web space I can call my own, and is totally managed by me.
